Grown by 75 percent since 2004

Bülach is also the capital of the district of the same name and provides various services for the region. With just under 25,000 inhabitants, the capital has grown significantly: in 2004, the population was 14,200, meaning that the number of inhabitants rose by over 75 percent within just a few years. Bülach is one of the ten largest cities in the canton of Zurich.

As one of the largest employers in the Zurich lowlands, Bülach Hospital offers 1,200 employees a secure job and trains around 140 apprentices. The air distance to Zurich is 16 kilometers. Zurich Central Station can be reached by public transport in 17 minutes; the airport in 18 minutes.

A further increase in population goes hand in hand with the construction of Bülach Nord on the sites of the former “Glashütte Bülach” (formerly Vetropack) and Bülachguss, which will accommodate a total of 2,000 residents.

Im Guss (construction period from 2016 to 2019) is a mixed-use district with around 420 rental apartments and 70 condominiums as well as office and commercial spaces. Land area: 55,300 m²; costs: around 300 million CHF (client: Allreal).

Glasi-Bülach (2019 to 2023): On the site of the former glassworks in Bülach-Nord, the Glasi Quarter is a lively urban district with squares, alleys and streets. 560 apartments and over 20,000 square meters of commercial space including offices, shops and a hotel (Niu). Land area: 42'000m². Investment volume: around 400 million CHF. Project partners: Glattal Zurich Building Cooperative, Logis Suisse AG, Steiner AG, Steiner Investment Foundation. In 2024, this is the Digital Health Center (dhc) one.

Economy in Bülach

Bülach has around 1332 workplaces and employs around 11,500 people. The Bülach companies are organized in Bülacher Industrien, Gewerbe Bülach and ALTSTADT BÜLACH. Vetropack is one of the most well-known companies in Bülach. OxyGym/well come fit is considered one of the largest fitness centers in the Zurich lowlands and was the first center in Switzerland to be awarded the 5-star classification in 2013.
